As summer approaches the struggle to look and feel cool begins

Just by looking outside, you can tell we are off to an extremely early summer. Our recent record breaking temperatures can also attest to that. This beautiful weather can understandably cause a lot of us to wear less clothes. However how do we know what to keep off without looking vulgar, while we still stay cool in the 90 degree weather? The answer is simple. There are many fabrics and many fashionable trends that can keep your body cool, your look stylish, and your wallet fat.

Cotton is a very breathable natural fiber, which can be turned into almost anything from dresses to beach bags. This fabric is light weight, and very porous which keeps air flowing through the material. It helps to avoid the sweaty, clammy feeling a lot of synthetic fabrics like polyester and nylon may give on a hot summer day. In addition, because cotton is so easy to drape, it allows for a flowing look, which is always in style during the summer months. Organic cotton is another option for the environmentally conscious consumer.

We love wearing clothes that reveal a lot of skin. Two of those items are shorts and skirts. Although you can dress shorts up or down, when they are too short, the look becomes raunchy, and that is something any fashionista should never aim for. The right length shorts or skirt can go a long way in revealing your sense of style. The Bermuda short, for example, is always an appropriate length, and can be used in a working environment. The Bermuda usually lands right above your knee giving you the opportunity to show enough skin. When shorts aren't the right length they tend to cause complications for the wearer such as riding up or not covering the right parts of the thigh and leg. The proper length of a miniskirt should include approximately six inches of extra fabric below the back pocket. Guys should too become aware of wearing the proper shorts. If the shorts are too short, three or more inches above the knee, it may look a bit "old school". However, if the shorts are too long - greater than four inches below the knee - they may come off as male Capri's. Cargos are usually a great look on any male, no matter his style or body type.

For any female, no matter the body type, dresses are another great way to look chic in the sun. Maxi dresses are very big this season, and are usually made of thin fabrics allowing them to be light weight and comfortable. Once again length plays an important role in the way a dress must fit. If you are petite, maxi dresses may overpower you, and shorten you're height, so a shorter simpler look may work best. If you are uncomfortable showing off certain body parts such as your arms and back, by wearing summer dresses it is still fashionable to wear a thin tank top or tee shirt underneath. The key is to ensure this additional piece of clothing compliments the dress, and does not make the outfit look messy.

Finally, accessorize! The right hat can shield you from the blazing sun but can also help you look dashing in front of any crowd. Straw hats are especially "in" this time of year. Cloth bags are also a very modish accessory, because other materials like suede may attract unwanted heat, and can become damaged if wet. When shopping, look for a bag made of cotton or flax, or any other natural fiber. Last but not least: shoes! The right shoes are always important. Gladiator sandals and thong flip flops are very popular and help your feet breathe. Guys can also show their feet, by wearing male flip flops. If that isn't an option there are always canvas shoes such as Vans, which are available in slip-ons or laced styles.
