Spartan track athletes collect All-SoCon honors at championships

The ladies and mens Track teams both traveled to Statesboro, Ga. to compete in the Southern Conference Outdoor Championship on Saturday April 26 and Sunday April 27.

On day one of the championship, A.J. Savoia received the All-SoCon honors as he finished second-place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Savoia had a time of 9:25.24 making that the best time on the team this season and only holding him back from his own record of last season which he made school history with.

Along with Savoia adding his talents to the day, Jeremey Cannon's fifth place finish in the javelin throw was only .04 meters from breaking his own school record with a throw of 52.54 meters.

Ramon Jobson-Brown attributed his own team-high mark with a leap of 6.36 meters in the long jump.

For the ladies, Laura Bocko finished tenth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:08.11. That was the best time in that event this season by almost seven seconds and it was also the second best time in school history.

The Spartans wrapped up the SoCon Outdoor Track and Field Championship games on day two in a big way.

Both T.J. Wyatt and Joey Thompson were named the All -SoCon performers. Thompson also received the all-freshman honors award.

Wyatt finished second in the 800-meter race with a time of 1:54.47. He was only .13 seconds away from claiming the championship in that event.

Thompson finished second in the 1,500-meter race with a time of 3:52.27. With his new time, he ended up breaking the previous school record that he had set this same year by over two and a half seconds.

Andy Clyne also qualified for the 800-meter final and finished with a time of 1:55.82 putting him in eighth place.

For the women, Tiffany Garber finished seventh in the 5,000-meters race with a time of 18:39.31 making that the second best time this season for the whole team.

The 4x400 meter relay team got a time of 4:19.99 on Sunday making the fourth-best time in school history.
