For a hometown band such as The Avett Brothers, (hailing from Concord, North Carolina) their devoted fan base worldwide falls nothing short of impressive. Comprised primarily of the two brothers, Seth and Scott Avett alongside the assistance of Bob Crawford and Joe Kwon, this quartet has discovered the formulation for success: a bona fide record. After hitting stores on September 29, their first ever major label debut went off without a hitch- partly in thanks to American Records and accomplished producer Rick Rubin who is also co-president of Columbia Records. It is only a matter of time until tracks from their newest album entitled, I and Love and You are climbing the charts on iTunes, and into the ears of those who weren't aware that music like this still existed.
With Scott Avett on banjo, Seth Avett both on piano, guitar and vocals this magnetic duo cannot and will not lose momentum. Although from the title of their band, one may assume that the group consists of solely Scott and Seth. But without Crawford on bass and percussion and Kwon on the cello, this ensemble would change dramatically. Between feeding off the energy of one another and their unmatched lyrics and vocals, I and Love and You is their primary run in the big leagues, and already has longtime followers and skeptics asking: who are The Avett Brothers and why haven't I been religiously following their work?
On their 13-track unprecedented masterpiece to say the least, The Avett Brothers wow audiences with popular tracks such as the title song "I and Love and You", the clever upbeat "Kick Drum Heart" and the realism of "Laundry Room". The complexity of these tracks are mind blowing in a simplistic way. The lyrics in tracks use realism with a genuine tactic that contain thought-provoking language in an everyday manner. The subject matter consists of "...how we end our phone calls and our letters/said by a girl to a boy/the most meaningful gift of all/the communication of love." The words "I love you" are used in such a frequent manner that one can easily forget what those words sincerely mean. This album awakens an honesty and importance of love that the world has seemed to have forgotten.
Scott's brilliant oil paintings on and inside the album, along with the emotional mission statement by Seth, I and Love and You gives you the opportunity to reevaluate and reestablish the lines of communication with anyone in your life, including yourself. This album promises to bring imperfection and the recognition of the ideology that change, forgiveness, and confession can and will positively change this world for the better.
