BIG NAMES TAKE BIG GRAMMY NOMINATIONS

On Wednesday, December 2, CBS had LL Cool J host the Grammy Nomination Concert for the upcoming 52nd annual award show. For 2009, many of the year's favorite artists have landed 5 to 10 nominations and getting big categories.

After LL Cool J's opening performance, his monologue giving shout-outs to all the big chart toppers of the year with disc-jockey David Guetta, the Black Eyed Peas took the stage with their hit "I've Gotta Feeling."

Passing out the first nominations, George Lopez announced the five artists up for Song of the Year. Last year, Coldplay won this award with Viva La Vida. This year, "Poker Face" by Lady GaGa, "Pretty Wings" by Maxwell, "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)" by Beyoncé, "Use Somebody" by Kings of Leon, and "You Belong With Me" by Taylor Swift. More than likely to win this will be Taylor Swift. Predicted to take this award is Taylor Swift, seeing that she has had made a huge impact on music in 2009.

Sugarland performed a song written for the holiday season called "Coming Home," specifically with the military troops in mind. It was a beautiful song, and very gospel. And as this country left the stage, the nominees for Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals was announced. The nominees are "I Gotta Feeling" by The Black Eyed Peas, "We Weren't Born to Follow" by Bon Jovi, "Never Say Never" by The Fray, "Sara Smile" by Daryl Hall & John Oats, and "Kids" by MGMT. Taking home this award will more than likely be The Black Eyed Peas. Their song has been used by almost every network for promotions.

The Jonas Brothers didn't make their return as the group this year. They haven't broken up, but Nick Jonas tried his hand at a project called Nick Jonas and the Administration. His brothers Kevin and Joe introduced the band. Nick criand his Administration sand "Who I Am." It still had the Jonas Brother campy sound, but he will definitely keep the fans that the JoBros have gathered while they take their short break.

Following after this performance was Maxwell singing a tribute song to the Michael Jackson "Lady in my Life." Maxwell brought a very familiar sound to this song that we knew Jackson to have, but it certainly didn't compare to genius and vocal range. Katy Perry, not nominated this year since she hasn't put a sophomore album out yet, announced the nominees for Best Rock Album. The nominees are Black Ice (AC/DC), Live From Madison Square Garden (Eric Clapton & Steve Winwood), 21st Century Breakdown (Green Day), Big Whiskey And The Groogrux King (Dave Matthews Band), and No Line On The Horizon (U2). Winning this award may be Green Day. Their approach to restoring punk rock from its disappearance years ago could be greatly favored by the committee.

The last half hour was all nomination announcements. T-Pain introduced the nominees for Best Rap Song. Nominated are "Best I Ever Had" by Drake, "Day 'N' Night" by Kid Cudi, "Dead And Gone" by T.I. and Justin Timberlake, "D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune)" by Jay-Z, and "Run This Town" by Jay-Z, Rihanna and Kanye West. Jay-Z has had a good year and it will be recognized: "Run This Town" is a great song with wonderful performances from all three contributing.

Once LL Cool J told everyone to make some noise for the hundredth time, nominees for Best Country Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals were announced. They are "Cowgirls Don't Cry" by Brooks & Dunn, "Chicken Fried" by Zac Brown Band, "I Run To You" by Lady Antebellum, "Here Comes Goodbye" by Rascal Flatts, and "It Happens" by Sugarland. Winning this award will be Lady Antebellum. They have taken country by storm with their respect to the sound of country while also including contemporary tempo. And the single is beautifully written.

To introduce the last nominations, music icons and legends Ringo Starr and Smokey Robinson presented. They started with the nominees for Record of the Year and they are "Halo" by Beyoncé, "I Gotta Feeling" by The Black Eyed Peas, "Use Somebody" by Kings of Leon, "Poker Face" by Lady GaGa, and "You Belong With Me" by Taylor Swift. Robinson then commented "Don't worry Taylor, Kanye West is not here." Neither was she, though. She may not need to worry about West interrupting again because it could be Lady GaGa taking home this award.

And Robinson and Starr closed the night with the nominees for Best Album of the Year. They are I am… Sasha Fierce (Beyoncé), The E.N.D. (The Black Eyed Peas), The Fame (Lady GaGa), Big Whiskey And The Groogrux King (Dave Matthews Band), and Fearless (Taylor Swift). All where amazing albums, but it's going to be Taylor Swift winning the big award of the night. She's proven herself at such a young age to write and perform an album of music that is cohesive with the sound of the album and music that every person in America and the world could relate to.

Landing the most nominations this year was Beyoncé with 10, while Taylor Swift got 8, and the Black Eyed Peas, Jay-Z, Kanye West and Maxwell got 6. Lady GaGa and David Guetta have 5 nominations.
