Greensboro ghouls and boys take note: music and ghosts are in the air as the Chapman Garage, Legitimate Business, and WUAG host a number of tricks and treats in the form of dance parties and cover shows.
As spirits rise on Halloween night, the party will roll at the Chapman Garage with the third annual All Hallows cover-show extravaganza. Each year, the good old garage delights with kickin renditions from old favorites. "There may be fireworks, there will be candy," jokes Chapman residents. For this round, the always rowdy Matt Hill with channel the spirit of the 'Killer,' Jerry Lee Lewis. A Greensboro "super-group" (featuring members of the Leeves, Cold Tony, and Even Kornegay) will pump out Thin Lizzy tunes, members of Eating the Invaders will play as The Beatles, and pop-punkers Social Life will be known that night as NOFX. To round out the evening, the Nondenoms will bring Rancid and Billy Idol together, and Philadelphia-rockers, Big Attack will make their way to the Gate City as punk-legends Stiff Little Fingers (SLF.)
The wicked weekend will warm-up at Legitimate Business Friday night on Grove Street. "Thin Lizzy," "The Beatles", "NOFX", and "SLF" will also be there, but the FUSS will present the tunes of Blink 182, Switchblade 85 will rock away as the Stooges, and FINSIH.
This two-punch round of cover shows gives the feeling of a DIY two-day Greensboro Halloween music festival which starts Friday at Legitimate Business and culminates Saturday at the Chapman Garage. One of the delights of festivals is seeing a few great acts the first night, and then savoring the fun on night two.
For those eager to rock a costume and dance the night away, musical Halloween festivities will commence on Tuesday when WUAG presents a beat-rockin' devilish dance party at Artistika. Costumes are strongly encouraged, and the shebang will feature Odd Nosdam, a revolutionary figure in the electronic music realm, whose on his first trip back to NC in six years, fellow Californian on tour, BRE'R, and Greensboro's own brand of "intelligent dance music," A Drop in Silence. "If you dig beat heavy electronic music in the vein of Boards of Canada, Clark, and Aphex Twin you will be in heaven," says WUAG manager, Jack Bonney.
Since they once happen once a year, these Halloween cover shows are incredibly extraordinary. Be sure to check out both nights over the wicked weekend, and head down to Artistika on Tuesday, Odd Nosdam is a treat that WUAG worked hard to bring to Greensboro. Either way, be sure to have a gory great time!
