This puppy, named Rain, Bob then Storm, was one of three of the puppies the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity were trying to find homes for last week.

Breakfast at the Caf was much more interesting and enjoyable for animal lovers last week. Lambda Chi Alpha camped out in front of the Atrium Monday through Wednesday trying to raise money for the animal shelter of Guilford County.

The fraternity's goal was to raise $500 dollars in the three days, and all the proceeds would go to buy a new kennel at the Guilford County Animal shelter.

On Tuesday, just a little past noon, they were well on their way to making their goal.

The frat brothers were spending the night in tents, though they did return the puppies to the shelter Tuesday night in light of the large storm that came through the Triad.

Colin Corkins, vice president of the fraternity philanthropy, said their fraternity had been doing this Puppy Sit since 1988. The event serves as a great way to help the community and bring the brotherhood of Lambda Chi Alpha together.

The puppies had come from a homeless man who was not able to care for them. When Lambda Chi Alpha got the puppies, they gave them the best of care and even gave them each temporary names. There were two females and one male. The male's name was Blue and one of the female's names was Sunshine.

Unfortunately, the second female was having a bit of a problem getting a name to stick. The frat brothers chuckled as they said her name used to be Rain, but somehow, it had been changed to Bob. While pulling things together for the night, they discussed changing the name to Storm.

The Guilford County Animal Shelter is in need of any funds. Many animals get adopted through the shelter but a little more than one third have to be euthanized. The Lambda Chi Alpha Puppy Sit is already over, but donations to the shelter would be able to help these animals live.

For more information about adopting a pet, the Guilford County Animal Shelter can be reached at www.adoptshelterpets.org/contact.
