I was outraged when I read in last week's Carolinian a guest column entitled "The Matt Hill Comer Problem" by Jason Crawford. I am on the Student Government Association legislative board with Matt and I am also a member of PRIDE!, so I found this column doubly insulting. It is in poor taste to openly attack someone like that based on your standards of what is good, let alone an entire community of people.
His column was despicable, but I have one thing to say to Jason Crawford: If you are going to quote from the Bible, do it correctly. In the column he quotes 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, and in that quote he uses the word "homosexual." Now I stand up and call B.S. on Jason Crawford. I am sorry, but check your etymology, sir. The words "homosexual" and "heterosexual" have only existed since the 1800s. Therefore, I would be interested to know what Bible you are reading, Crawford.
Overall, I think Jason Crawford is using his own skewed religious beliefs to continue being a close-minded bigot. So again I would like to say: B.S. Jason Crawford, B.S..
Editor's Note: At least eight versions of the Bible include the word "homosexual" in 1 Corinthians 6:9-10. More information can be found at www.BibleGateway.com.
