A few days ago I read Mr. Crawford's guest column "The Matt Hill Comer Problem." Mr. Crawford's column invoked the feelings of hate I and my fellow LGBTQI brothers and sisters have had to face because of who we are. Mr. Crawford called us, Matt Hill Comer, and all LGBTQI people desecrations from the King. My God is one who loves all, regardless of who we love.
Mr. Crawford has total and complete disregard for those who make up our community as people. We are not points for Mr. Crawford to discriminate against, nor should we be shunned because of who we are, we are human. We walk beside you, we walked the same halls as you did before and we bleed just as you do. I really doubt I can change Mr. Crawford's beliefs, but I hope to broaden his mind a bit.
On Tuesday, Jan. 30, I am seeing Judy Shepherd, the mother of Matthew Shepherd, speak at UNC. Matthew Shepherd was killed almost 10 years in Laramie, Wyoming in a brutal hate crime, because he was gay. I urge and hope to see Mr. Crawford in attendance.
