I honestly can't decide if this oddball is an underground novelty, destined to be filed into the same VH1 documentary countdown as slap bracelets and Flock of Seagulls haircuts, or if perhaps he's destined to become a legendary crazy old boozehound. Bob Log III, for those of you unfamiliar with this phenomenon, is a randy 33-year old man that wears an aviator's helmet with a microphone strapped to it throughout his shows. He sits in a chair with his 22-year old acoustic guitar in his lap, kicking a drum in front of him, and plunking away at the strings with a monkey's paw that was supposedly attached to his wrist after a boating accident. His lyrical style is dominated by his profound love of the female form and alcohol. His hit, "Boob Scotch," speaks for itself. Onstage his energy is contagious, making up for unintelligible repetitive choruses. Musically speaking, I have to admit, the man has the blues licks down pat. The simple thumping beats and twangy melodies will make your toes tap in spite of yourself. So, if you've got a filthy sense of humor, Bob Log III just might complete your musical collection.
