With the approaching election, practically every commercial break has at least one campaign ad running. In North Carolina some of the most prominent ads feature Richard Moore and Beverly Perdue as they vie for the governorship.

At one point, all the ads featured recriminations about the candidates' voting records.

On April 5, 2008 in a speech in San Francisco Sen. Obama stated that people who live in small towns in Pennsylvania and the Midwest are "bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.
