Wrestlers finish 15th at Las Vegas Invitational
Artis places 5th to pace Spartans

The UNC Greesnboro wresling team captured 15th place at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational after collecting a total of 50.5 points during the two-day event.
Michigan paced the 52-team field with a total of 127.0 points. Cornell (110.0), Missouri (97.5), Edinboro (92.0) and Arizona State (91.0) round out the top five. In the SoCon, Chattanooga finished in 12th place (59.0) while The Citadel claimed 23rd place (35.5).
Individually, senior Kevin Artis finished in fifth place in the 141 lbs. weight class after the Baltimore, MD native defeated Chattanooga's Michael Keefe in the consolation bracket. Artis reached the semifinals, but lost a 6-5 decision to California-Davis' Derek Moore in the round of four. Artis finished the tournament with a 3-2 record.
Junior Daren Burns captured a sixth
place finish in the 197 lbs. weight class after posting a 5-2 record for the weekend. The Catawba, NC also reached the semifinals in his respective weight class, but dropped a 16-5 decision to Matt Monteiro of Cal Poly. In the consolation bracket, Burns fell 7-5 to NC State's Ryan Goodman to claim sixth place.
Senior Tyler Shovlin also picked up a sixth place finish in the 285 lbs. weight class after going 3-2 overall record on the weekend. The Harrisburg, PA native was the third Spartan to reach the semifinals, but lost a 3-1 decision to Andy Patrick of Boise State.
The Spartans return to the mat Dec. 29-30 when UNCG hosts the 2005 Southern Scuffle at the Greensboro Coliseum.
