Looking to make a move? There's room off campus

For many, this perhaps means being able to move into a newer building or getting a better roommate. Whatever the case, students should also consider off campus housing options. Whether living in one of the inconvenient high rises, or the non-air-conditioned quad, a new apartment may seem too unrealistic to currently afford.
Consider the prices of on-campus living: according to the UNCG's Housing and Residence Life (HRL) homepage, a double occupancy room costs $3,233 for the academic year; $4,747 for Tower Village; and $4,947 for the Spring Garden Apartments.
Parking passes are another expense to take into account. The typical student resident B-pass costs $265 for the academic year, and an "upgrade" to one of the parking deck passes (all on waiting lists) requires students to pay $400 for the academic year. Meal plans further add to these costs.
All students living on campus are required to purchase one of the few available meal plans available to their class status - the cheapest meal plans being for upperclassmen (many of whom already live in apartment-style housing in Tower Village or the Spring Garden Apartments). For freshmen, the lowest meal plan rate per semester runs at $1,237.50 for unlimited Caf visits and $75 towards declining balance. The rates only slightly decline from there. Each meal plan seeks to provide for a variety of needs for its students, however, UNCG's on-campus food ranges from the predictable food quality of the Caf to the higher meal prices at the EUC food court or Atrium outlets.
Under the HRL webpage, UNCG provides a link at the bottom of the page for off-campus housing options, at address euc.uncg.edu/services/information/offcampushousing. The main site under this link provides general advice and tips towards new apartment owners.
