"Love Your Body" Week

The Department of Women and Gender Studies initiates the NOW Foundations "Love Your Body" campaign on the UNCG campus (www.loveyourbody.nowfoundation.org). The goal of this event is to raise awareness about body issues and promote healthy alternatives that encourage positive body image.
Monday Oct.16: "Smart Sex"
12:00pm - Lunchtime Series: Mary Connor, Community Health Educator for Planned Parenthood, will lead discussion and interactive activities (Sex Trivia!) regarding sexual behavior.
EUC Joyner Room
12pm -2pm - Information Table - Dining Hall
*Day-long campus wide initiative* Interested participants will receive/create a variety of handouts (fliers, postcards, stickers, magnets etc) to be passed out throughout the day and generate discussion around a variety of topics relating to sexual behavior.
Tuesday Oct. 17: "Minding the Media"
12:30pm - Lunchtime Series: "Dying to Look Good: How the Media Promotes Negative Body Image and Unhealthy Behaviors" Jill Shaw, Registered Dietician / Nutrition Educator, Student Health Services. EUC Joyner Room
12pm-2pm - Information Table: Harmful Ads Slideshow - EUC Commons
Wednesday Oct. 18: Official Love Your Body Day
12:00pm - Lunchtime Series Activity: "Let's Get Physical"
John Meeks, from Greensboro Sportsplex will host a variety of outside activities. Participants will receive free "Love Your Body" t-shirts. EUC West Lawn.
12pm-2pm - Information Table - EUC Commons
7:00pm - WGS Film Series: Real Women Have Curves
7:00pm - Opening Night: For Colored Girls Who Have Committed Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf (Show runs through Sunday 10/22) Taylor Theater
Thursday Oct. 19: "Sisterhood: Our Bodies in Black & White"
12:30pm - Lunchtime Series: "Figured In" exhibit at Weatherspoon Art Museum. Guided 30 minute tour led by Ann Grimaldi, Curator of Education, followed by group discussion over lunch.
12pm-2pm - Information Table - EUC Commons
7:00pm - Published author and photographer Kathy Fitzgerald will give a 30 minute presentation on her new book, followed by group discussion and book signing. EUC Auditorium
Friday Oct. 20: "Show Us What You're Made Of"
12:00 - 2pm - Lunchtime Series Celebration! Open-Mic/Performance Showcase
SoulFlower Studios Bellydance Performance and Workshop with Faun Finley. EUC Kirkland Room
