No need for WTF
Issue date: 10/17/06 Section: Letters to the Editor
I am writing in regard to Andrea Fisher's articles entitled "WTF is That?" While the information they hold is interesting and news-worthy, I do not feel that the "WTF," which, as we all know, stands for What the Fuck?, in the title is necessary. Using that type of abbreviated language for an article that contains intelligent information and news of items on campus just makes what is about to be read less desireable and taken in a less serious tone than if it had a more professional title.
You hype yourself up as a professional student newspaper, and while much of it is on the borderline of being so, this article and its very bold, large WTF title just demotes whatever professionalism it ever hoped to have. Please keep the interesting articles, but please change the names of them into something more educated and professional.
I mean, think about it. How many times have you opened up the New York Times, News and Record, or the Wall Street Journal and seen in large letters, an abbreviation of "What the Fuck" staring you in your face?
