Jameel Lenard Ray is currently wanted by the Durham Police but has been missing. UNCG law enforcement arrested him in Cone a month ago for aggravated assault, but only recently received notification from the U.S. Marshal Service about his role in a murder investigation.
In response, officers stepped up their search and were asking around for information when they learned Ray may still be visiting campus.
"We wanted to try and catch him," said Major J.C. Herring. "We decided it was more important for students to know and be on the lookout. We've lost the element of surprise but it's also important for him to know that we're out there looking for him."
Herring stressed that Ray should be considered armed and dangerous and urged students and citizens alike not to approach him.
Fliers have been posted on residence hall doors and buildings around campus with a photo and the advice stated above in hopes of attracting information on his whereabouts.
"It was more important to get him off of campus," he said of releasing the information. "We want him caught, but caught off campus."
Ray is described as a 19-year-old black male standing at approximately 6 feet 5 inches tall, weighing 200 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He has a tattoo on his right arm reading "MEEL 87."
Anyone with information regarding Ray is urged to contact UNCG Police 334-5963 for non-emergency calls, or at 334-4444 in case of emergency.
Information on Jameel Lenard Ray and others on UNCG's Most Wanted list can be found on the UNCG Police Department website at http://police.uncg.edu.
