ALL SMILES: Randi Patterson breaks into a wide grin after scoring his second goal of the night in UNC Greensboro's 2-0 win over Wofford Saturday night. The win allowed the Spartans to advance to the second round this Friday in Greenville, S.C.

"Good enough."

Those were the words UNCG head coach Michael Parker used to describe his team's 2-0 win over Wofford in the opening round of the Southern Conference Tournament at UNCG Soccer Stadium Saturday night.

"There are times when we lack intensity and we lack determination, and that's when we've looked poor," Parker said. "We saw it tonight, and if we continue like that we'll have problems this weekend."

This weekend is when UNCG (12-7-0) will face Appalachian State/College of Charleston in Greenville, S.C. on the campus of Furman University in the semifinals of the tourney. Game time is 4:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon.

Randi Patterson did his part to help the Spartans advance, notching a goal in each half off of feeds from D.J. McCurry.

McCurry pushed his assist tally to four on the season after setting up both goals. The junior defender sent a gorgeous through ball to Patterson three minutes into the game to stake the Spartans to an early 1-0 advantage. Patterson received the ball twenty yards out with only the keeper to beat. The New Jersey native easily shook the Wofford keeper and deposited the ball in the net.

At 51:06 McCurry sent in a long cross from the right sideline. The ball bounced in the box and Patterson beat two defenders to chest-bump the long hop into the net for the 2-0 lead.

The senior forward's ninth and 10th goals of the year moved him ahead of current women's coach Eddie Radwanski into seventh place on UNCG's career scoring list with 135 points. Patterson also has 58 goals for his career, placing him fifth all-time in goals scored.

"It's my last home game and I wanted to go out with a bang," said Patterson after the victory. "To score two goals is great, but I'm happy with the win - that's really all that matters.

"Back when I was a freshman, my goal was just to start. I wanted to play in every game and get an opportunity to show what I could do."
