The UNCG volleyball team dropped two straight in Southern Conference play last week, marking a three game losing streak that started against Chattanooga on Oct. 21.
The first game of the road trip came against the Davidson Wildcats on Friday. The fourth place Wildcats defeated UNCG with a 30-24, 30-23, and 30-21 three game sweep. The Spartans were led by freshman Branagan Fuller with six kills while senior Theresa Hart, senior Lauren Keiser, and freshman Liz Benzschawel each chipped in five kills apiece. Freshman setter Lisa Fawell dished out 23 assists while freshman Catherine Hanners led in the defensive effort with eight digs.
The Spartans played from behind for a good part of the match only leading in the third game, 5-4 before Davidson went on a 9-3 run at the eight-point mark to cruise to the match victory.
UNCG continued its road woes against conference powerhouse Appalachian State. The loss against the second place Mountaineers dropped the Spartans to below .500 in the conference for the first time this season. The 30-24, 30-19, and 30-28 three game loss brought the Spartans' record to a 17-11 overall record and a 7-8 record in the SoCon.
The Spartans were led by sophomore Kailtlyn Nortz with 11 kills and six blocks. Hart contributed to the offensive effort as well with nine kills while also tallying nine digs. Fawell recorded 33 assists while Hanners pumped another team-high 13 digs.
