Delores Huerta speaks on human rights

From the Jena 6 to farm workers' rights, activist Delores Huerta covered a host of pressing human rights issues in her speech, entitled "Making History and Fighting for Those Who Cannot." The human rights activist was this year's speaker for the Office of Multicultural Affairs' Human Rights event.

SGA works to improve association

Recently, two UNC schools have withdrawn from the Association of Student Government, claiming that the ASG was "in shambles." After UNCG's Student Government Association attended the ASG's September meeting, John Bryant, SGA president, said he believes these two schools had come away from the meeting with a different set of feelings than UNCG did.

University services take measures to make students more fit
UNCG placed rather high on a list entitled "Top Twenty Colleges: The Fattest and Fittest," and it was not for being one of the fittest. Men's Fitness Magazine paired with Princeton Review to compile the list in 2005, and UNCG was named the sixth fattest college in the nation.

Larry Sabato in favor of reformed Constitution

Larry Sabato, a leading political scientist, spoke at UNCG Wednesday about his ideas on how to reform the Constitution. In the Science Building, Sabato began his talk with jokes about buying his new book, which he jokingly continued to push throughout the speech.

Preparations made in case of avian flu pandemic

UNCG is making preparations in case of flu pandemic. The focus is on the influenza A virus, more commonly known as the avian flu. This virus is most common in poultry, but can also be spread to humans. The universities in the University of North Carolina system are taking part in a tabletop exercise this upcoming week to test the effectiveness of the plan.

Acupuncture now offered through Wellness Center

In response to student complaints of not enough programs being offered, the Wellness Center has added something completely new. In addition to providing wellness programs, nutrition counseling, and massage therapy, UNCG Wellness Center is now offering acupuncture for students.
