UNCG placed rather high on a list entitled "Top Twenty Colleges: The Fattest and Fittest," and it was not for being one of the fittest.
Men's Fitness Magazine paired with Princeton Review to compile the list in 2005, and UNCG was named the sixth fattest college in the nation.
Criteria for the list included student bodies, exercise, bad habits, and campus fitness, among other things.
The compilation also included tips on "what to do if you attend one of the fattest universities," with suggestions such as always eating breakfast, resisting the urge to party too hard, and staying active.
Since UNCG made the list the university has put into place many programs to help our campus become more fit and healthy.
The Wellness Center now offers services such as nutrition counseling, weight management, and metabolic testing. One of the center's main priorities is to present students with healthy options and opportunities.
"We try to coordinate with other campus services, such as the Student Recreation Center and Dining Services," explains Jill Shaw, a registered dietician and nutritionist for the Wellness Center.
The Student Recreation Center has joined the effort, offering a program called "Energize Your Life." Students enrolled in this program are given nutrition and fitness assessments, individualized meal and exercise plans, and weekly weigh-ins.
The Rec Center's website states the purpose of programs such as this one is to provide participants with "the tools to successfully incorporate healthy practices into their lives."
Dining Services is also joining in the fight to make UNCG fit. The Greensborough Deli now allows students to make healthier choices for their sandwich meals, such as wheat bread instead of white, and the choice of a fruit cup instead of chips.
Use of the Rec Center is free to all UNCG students, and the Wellness Center offers many programs to students free of charge. The purpose of these programs and adjustments are to encourage healthier habits and lifestyles for all UNCG students.

This article was not only offensive, but obviuosly ill researched. Do you know where the survey came from? A Men's Magazine. They are about as credible as Teen People. (Continued…)
