UNCG's volleyball team defeated cross-town rivals N.C. A&T last Tuesday 3-0. The Spartans then proceeded to head down to South Carolina where they beat The Citadel 3-0, but lost to the College of Charleston 3-1.
The Spartans were on a four-game win streak when they lost their first SoCon match of the season with a 3-1 loss to the College of Charleston.
The Spartans began game one running on the adrenaline rush from a well-timed kill from Katherine Hart and a service ace from Lisa Fawell. This rush did not last long when the Cougars came back in the middle of the match to take the 14-10 lead. Kills from Kaitlyn Nortz and Branagan Fuller brought the Spartans as close as 21-18, but their efforts weren't enough as the Spartans lost game one 30-24.
UNCG began game two with an early lead but the Cougars began to rally back. The two teams went back and forth but the Spartans came out on top, winning game two 30-25.
The Cougars took the early lead in game three but the Spartans came back with kills from Nortz, Fuller, and Hart. But a kill from the Cougars' Emily Swain gave the College of Charleston the momentum they needed to win game three 30-22.
The final game was close throughout its entirety but the Cougars were able to stay in control and win it by a close score of 30-26.
The Spartans 3-0 win over The Citadel made them undefeated in conference play.
The Citadel proved to be a threat when they were able to keep game one close in the opening minutes of the match, but kills from Alissa Beaudway and Hart allowed the Spartans to take game one 30-16.
The Citadel came out strong again in game two, but they were unable to keep the momentum going throughout the duration of the match. The Spartans gave The Citadel several opportunities to take the game as their own due to several mistakes, but the Spartans reconvened and were able to keep it together to win game two 30-20.
UNCG came out hard in the third and final match of the game. They opened the game with a 10-2 lead and forced their opponents to make several mistakes. The Citadel got as close as 18-9, but the Spartans offense foiled all their efforts and UNCG came out on top with a 30-17 victory.
