Why Love Your Body Day?
John Boschini
Issue date: 10/16/07 Section: Life
Love Your Body Day is approaching, and Oct.18 is a day to celebrate who you are, regardless of age, race, or body type. Love Your Body Day, a brainchild of The National Organization for Women Foundation, is entering its ninth year of celebrating all forms of beauty. According to the campaign's official website, www.loveyourbody.nowfoundation.org, "Each year, on Love Your Body Day, activists around the country say 'no' to twisted beauty standards and hazardous advertisements by holding rallies, pickets, house parties, classroom discussions and more."
Why dedicate most of an entire section to a single day? I, like many young people, struggle enormously with my self esteem and body image and feel that it is tragic to waste my life worrying about what color my hair is or what size dress I wear. I recognize that beauty is not "one size fits all." Thus, I have decided to dedicate this issue's Life section to helping fellow students attain a positive body image. In the section this week, you will find photographs of students of different ages and backgrounds as well as articles relevant to Love Your Body Day.
