Recently in The Carolinian, I've read many columns supporting free speech on campus-from the right and the left. It seems that one issue that brings both sides together is free speech and the necessity thereof. I want to remind people to practice what they preach.

I have personally posted approximately 100 fliers around campus (in flier-appropriate areas) encouraging conservatives to become organized. Most of the fliers had a picture of a guy in a suit with tape over his mouth, and the caption urged conservatives to "pull the tape off" of their mouths to challenge liberalism. Over 75 percent of the fliers have been torn down. If the janitors aren't doing it (and they aren't-I asked) then it means a student, professor, or administrator is hampering free speech-the ideal held dear by so many people. It seems that some folks only value free speech if they agree with the message.

I highly value free speech. Apparently, members of this campus hate it. So I ask, what are you so afraid of? Rational thought that may challenge your own beliefs and ideas? I was under the impression that college was supposed to make people think. I believe some people need to ask for a refund of tuition.
