UNCG's volleyball team swept The Citadel 3-0 on Friday night, but suffered a hard-fought loss when the College of Charleston came from behind to beat the Spartans 3-2 Saturday afternoon.

In game one the Cougars came back from a 12-6 deficit to beat the Spartans 30-28. The Spartans took the early 7-6 lead behind kills from Emily Lindborg and Katherine Hart. UNCG continued their efforts and were able to manage a 17-10 lead before the Cougars pounded out three consecutive points.

The Cougars dropped the Spartans lead down to one when they took advantage of a UNCG attack error. The game saw several ties before the College of Charleston dished out two more points for the victory.

The Spartans entered game two with a vengeance, and once they pulled out in front with the 16-10 lead they never looked back. The Cougars managed to cut the Spartans' lead down five, but the Spartans came out on top with the 30-20 win.

A Cougar team penalty allowed the Spartans to begin game three with the 3-0 advantage. The College of Charleston got as close as 24-18, but the Spartans would not relinquish their lead and finished the game on a 6-2 run to take game three, 30-20.

The Cougars took the early 4-1 lead in game four but kills from Branagan Fuller and Kayren Finney tied the game up at 10-10. The Spartans got as far as 25-21, but four consecutive Cougar points and five UNCG attack errors gave the College of Charleston the momentum they need to win game four, 30-27.

With the match tied at two apiece, a fifth and decisive game was played. The final game consisted of a lot of back and forth play. It appeared the Spartans would take game five after a Cougar service error, but the Cougars scored on four of their last five possessions to take the game by a score of 15-12 and thus the match 3-2.

The Spartans took out their brooms in their match against The Citadel and swept the Bulldogs 3-0.

The Spartans were down early in game one, but a 10-1 run in the middle of the game allowed the Spartans to take the 14-10 lead that they would never relinquish. The Bulldogs managed to get within two points of the Spartans, but kills from Lindborg and Fuller and a service ace from Lisa Fawell allowed the Spartans to take game on with a 30-26 victory.

In game two the Bulldogs put the Spartans behind them once again. The Citadel managed to get as far ahead as 8-4, but the Spartans went on a 10-0 run to take the 14-8 lead. Once the lead was gained the Spartans never looked back and they exited game two with the 30-20 win.

After two come-from-behind victories the Spartans decided not to fool around in game three and led the game from beginning to end. The Spartans completed their sweep with a 30-16 win in game three.

The Spartans hit the road to play Furman on Friday, Oct. 27 at noon and Wofford on Sunday, Oct. 28 at 2:00 p.m.
