Nature isn't always best

Old bacterium and viruses keep popping up and are becoming harder and harder to fight. As stated in the Opinions page of The Carolinian last week, people are becoming germ crazy and are trying to overprotect themselves. However, I disagree that we should all be left to heal naturally.
Science has come up with several methods for treating these viruses and bacteria, resulting in longer life spans. Even the last article stated this. With all of these advances, what good would "watching and waiting" do when we can be proactive and battle these sicknesses head on? If we just sit around and wait for our bodies to overcome sickness by themselves, it will be that much longer that we have to wait to be well. This waiting could very well make our weak bodies even more susceptible to other sicknesses.
We should allow our brilliant scientists to deal with the recurring strains. After all, it is taking them less and less time to do so. Otherwise, we may face new epidemics as we wait for our bodies to heal themselves.
