Frosty morning breath, jackets, and hoodies of every color are signaling the change of seasons, which is finally coming. With Thanksgiving approaching, the seasonal shopping will start off the part of the year where people give to each other and enjoy each other's company. To keep spirits up and bodies warm, we bring you homemade hot chocolate and chicken soup recipes to make for friends and families.
These recipes are great for warming up loved ones because not only are they hot, they require time, work, and of course, a lot of love, to make. They aren't the easiest of recipes, but it definitely shows that you care for someone when you spend your afternoon cooking fresh chicken noodle soup for them instead of warming up the stuff from the can! Don't worry, despite being a bit time consuming, the recipes are relatively easy to make; the hardest part is getting all the ingredients ready. If you don't have time right now, save these recipes and surprise someone on your next visit home with homemade goodness!

Hot Chocolate
•1/2 cup whole milk
•2 cups half-and-half
•4 ounces chopped bittersweet chocolate
•4 ounces chopped milk chocolate
•1 tablespoon sugar
•1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
•1 teaspoon coffee powder
Heat the milk and half-and-half in a saucepan on medium heat. It is important to keep it from simmering or boiling, or the milk will get a "skin." When heated, remove from heat and add the chocolates. Stir until melted. Add remaining ingredients and whisk vigorously. When done, reheat on low settings and serve immediately, with or without marshmallows.
Chicken Broth
•1 whole chicken, no giblets
•2 carrots cut into big chunks
•3 celery stalks
•2 large white onions
•1 head of garlic, peeled and halved
•1 turnip, halved
•1 tablespoon thyme
•2 bay leaves
•1 teaspoon whole black peppercorns
Place the chicken and vegetables in a huge soup pot over medium heat. Pour in only enough water to cover the ingredients; too much will make it taste watery. Throw in the herbs and allow it to slowly come to a boil. Lower the heat to medium-low and simmer for 1 to 1 and 1?2 hours, partially covered, until the chicken is done. While it is cooking, skim off of the top any impurities that float. Keep checking on the broth and add water if necessary to keep the chicken covered while cooking. When done, carefully remove the chicken and place on a cutting board. When cool, discard the skin and bones, and shred the meat into a storage container. Now, strain the broth to remove the vegetables and herbs. Set aside.
Chicken Noodle Soup
•2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
•1 medium onion, chopped
•3 garlic cloves, minced
•2 medium carrots, cut into 1/2 inch slices
•2 celery stalks, halved length-wise, cut into 1/2 slices
•1 tablespoon dried thyme
•1 bay leaf
•2 quarts prepared chicken broth
•8 ounces dried wide egg noodles
•1 1/2 cups chicken, reserved from making broth
•Coarse/kosher salt and ground black pepper
Place a soup pot over medium heat and coat sides and bottom with oil. Add the onion, garlic, carrots, celery, thyme, and bay leaf. Cook and stir them for about six minutes until they are softened but not browned. Pour in the chicken broth and bring to a boil. Add the noodle and simmer for five minutes until tender. Put in the chicken and simmer for another couple of minutes. Season with the salt and pepper and eat!
