The web is a seemingly endless source of information and body-positive websites are springing up all the time. If you want an online pick-me-up, check out Adiosbarbie.com, a website dedicated to helping women improve their self-image.

The website features different sections such as journal, body outlaw, media diet, play, resources, and barbiology, and is very easy to navigate. Not sure where to start? Here is a quick breakdown of the sections and what you'll find with each.

The journal section has news and updates and information from the editor, Ophira. She started this website in 1999, and also travels around the world to talk to people about body image. The belief she has is that the root of body love is self-acceptance, and she says she hopes Adiosbarbie.com will help people find it.

The features section contains articles that pertain to loving your body as well as hair, eating disorders, and working out. One article called "I'm fat-take that!" is about snappy comebacks to rude remarks about your weight or body shape. Another article is about a gym in San Francisco that advertised by showing a space alien's head with the slogan "When they come, they'll eat the fat ones first."

The body outlaw section highlights a few people who "break society's rules and live on their own terms." There are stories about three different people, all who are doing something to encourage positive body-image for women. There is a piece, for example, on "Vinnie the Tampon Guy," a man who opened a store in New York City that sells tampon cases and other select period-related merchandise.

The media diet section is about things the media expects us to believe. The purpose of this section is to highlight and criticize national ads and stories in magazines and on TV that could lead to negative or distorted body images.

The play section features a game called "Feed The Model." The bigger the model gets, the higher your score. In order to advance each level, you must throw food into the model's mouth until she weighs at least 240 pounds. They also have virtual stickers you can stick on your website or Myspace page. One of them has a picture of a suitcase and the line is "this trunk is packed!"

If you are looking for more body-positive information or websites, you can check out the resources section. They have an electric body bookshelf and you can reach out, find support, and get help through a link called "Bodylovin' links."

Other than an about us section, the last section is barbiology. Barbieology is the "art and science of being Barbie." There is a historical timeline of Barbie's outfits and careers as well as 10 Funky Facts About Barbie.

If you have down time between classes and are already surfing the web, or you are looking for a good resource to help you improve your self-image, check out Adiosbarbie.com, and do some reading, watch some videos, and have some fun!
