UNCG's women's basketball team defeated Wofford, 66-63 on Thursday and lost to Furman 59-55 on Saturday.

Saturday's game was preceded by a ceremony honoring seniors Kemena Brooks, Meghan Chamberlain, Jasmine Dixon, and Brittany Frazier.

The Spartans' loss to Furman started off in UNCG's favor. The Spartans were leading 11-3 within the first eight minutes of the game. The score increased to 13-8, but the Spartans remained in the lead.

Midway through the first half, the Paladins went on a 9-2 run taking the lead 17-15. Their lead was enhanced by six points going into second half, 30-25.

UNCG started the second half off just as well as they had begun the first. The Spartans didn't let the Paladins score for the first five minutes of the half, and then followed up with an 8-0 run taking the lead, 33-30.

Furman came back with five shots taking the lead, 49-47, with just four minutes left in the game.

Two minutes later Frazier scored, thus returning the lead to UNCG by two points.

The Paladins then proceeded to steal the ball, which ended up with Furman's Lee Stephens getting fouled. Stephens made both shots, which tied the game 54-54.

The Paladins ultimately came out with the 59-55 win.

Thursday's game started off with a bang. UNCG made seven points within the first eight minutes of the game, followed by a 6-0 run, giving them the 15-8 lead.

Wofford quickly took action with back to back three pointers closing in on the lead, 15-14. The remainder of the first half consisted of the teams trading buckets. The first half ended in a 24-24 tie.

The second half started off in Wofford's favor. The Terriers took the lead with several quick shots making the score 28-24. UNCG quickly followed and grabbed the lead. A 5-0 run from Wofford put them back in the lead 34-28.

Shortly after the Terriers' run, Brooks made 10 straight shots, thus allowing the Spartans to take the 41-36 lead. UNCG quickly extended their lead, 50-43.

Despite Wofford's strong offensive efforts, the Spartans were able to utilize Brooks' career-high 26 points to walk away with the 66-63 victory.

The Spartans have completed their regular season and finished in ninth place and are slated to take on Appalachian State, who finished in eighth place, on Thursday, March 6 at 5:30 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum.
