The Confederate flag
Richard Durham
Issue date: 4/15/08 Section: Letters to the Editor
The Confederate flag is an undying symbol of those willing to give their lives against tyranny. The Civil War was not about slavery-it was about outrageous tariff taxes and states rights.
It is my opinion that Mr. Dubois is ignorant to the facts that many blacks fought for the Confederacy and that many Union officers owned slaves or the fact that not one southern ship ever brought a slave to this country, but the North surely did, along with the English and French.
I am proud of my Southern heritage as everyone has a right to their own heritage, and no one has the right to take that from them.
Mr. Dubois, you should have knowledge of a subject before you speak out. It sound as if you are the one who hates.
