For one-night only, CFBG is set to host an art party popping with photography, portraiture and paintings on April 16 starting at 7:30 p.m.
The party blends live music and artistic mediums including pop culture and the traditional fare. TrotterArt Collaborations will present work from pop culture expressionist Jillian Doherty, pieces by photographer Jess Loer and paintings by Michael Trotter himself, with live music ringing from indie-artists, Matty Sheets and the Block Heads, and robotic rhymester, Antigravity Animated.
A 23-year-old education and art student at UNCG, Loer bridges the arts of sight and sound through her work with the cooperation of local bands. Her work can be seen on flyers and merchandise booths around the Triad, from acts like the Leeves, Friend House, Raving Knaves and many others.
"My goal is to capture moments of fun and passion, to preserve them in tangible form," says Loer.
Trotter, an art student since youth, formally studied a range of styles while attending Brevard College. There he developed his, "cohesive style of mixing the old with the modern," while drawing impression and influence from Vincent Van Gogh and his mother, fantasy artist Elizabeth A. Lustig.
"I've been passionately immersed in art culture for many years," says Doherty, a 21-year-old Randolph Community College photojournalism student.
Doherty's passion explodes on page in wild, colorful displays of sharpie squiggles which collide to create captivating portraits of pop culture icons in the vein of influences Andy Warhol and David Lynch. “I’m mostly motivated by my daily surroundings, "Doherty says with a smile, revealing her bright personality which bursts both in and out of print.
Then there's the Redrum Series: using only black and red, Doherty has created the hall-of-fame for murderous female insanity. Enlisting horrifying images and stories of ten ladies “who’ve either murdered or had been a victim in history,” says Doherty.
The party’s audio-end won't get any less fun or quirky as Matt Sheets and the Blockheads, a revolving octet of strings and ‘creative percussion' will be wailing about “trains, the country, the city, love, bicycles, blueberry pie, war paint, coffee, cigarettes, whiskey, traveling, little notebooks that fit in your back pocket, feelings and humor.” While Antigravity Animated will take tape-smashing and robotic cardboard emcee to a whole new level.
