A little ways down 311 south and to the left, the Aquarius Music Hall stands strong and tall ready to host artist Uncle Kracker. People emerged from the comfort of their vehicles into the unnaturally chilly spring air, lined up and waited for the flash of a red neon sign to beckon them inside. Impromptu parking lot shenanigans was created by a traveling group of friends initiated by an individual who tried what bystanders deemed as “car surfing”.

While waiting for the doors to open, more eventful moments occurred with the arrival of a tour bus. After a brief halt at the front of the music hall, the bus drove off into the parking lot, managing to hit an electrical poll with its left side view mirror. A gasp rose from the line along with a string of profanities in reaction to the shaking poll and flying electrical cable.
Lightening up the brief scare, shouts of YouTube references and “they’re worst drivers than you, ma!” brought about light chuckles while patrons exchanged their favorite Kracker songs, including “Follow Me” and “Butterfly,” a particular favorite with High Point native Ricky McDowel. “I like his first stuff better,” he shared.

Starting out with “Corner Bar,” microphone malfunction halfway through the song gave way to some brief looks of distress, all made up for in his next song “I Do.” The combination of brass and bass tones with a classic rock feel made the evening enjoyable for both recently familiar and dedicated fans. Audience participation was encouraged with “In A Little While” as hands reached for the sky and clapped to the beat. “Hey Hey Hey,” a new song off of his new album Happy Hour, was referred to as a song about a rough point he hit around two years back. “The sun shining on my face/everything will be ok” were a few choice lyrics that best suited his attitude.

“I’m no spring chicken around here Carolina, but I’m seeing a lot of old people.” Rolling with the punches of his humorously taken comment followed collaborative hit “Drift Away” with Dobie Gray. Settling into the brief calm of the evening, Kracker opened up about his youngest of three daughters being upset over his leave on tour. Like any great father, the inspiration behind his success helped him write a song eight years ago titled “Letter To My Daughters.”

After a blast from the past with “Follow Me,” Kracker performed his collaborative hit with Kid Rock “All Summer Long”.

Putting his own spin on things, Kracker broke out his turntable on a cover of “What I Got” by Sublime. Ending with his new single “Smile,” the crowd rejoiced in shouts of delight and never-ending chatter.
