Let’s pretend I’m a white supremacist (which I am not). Lets pretend that I believe that integration is immoral (which many white supremacists have and do). Lets pretend that I do not want my tax dollars to go to public schools or to my University which will give money to the NAACP because it is a violation of my moral principals.
Does this bother anyone? It is a clear example of how people (even of the same faith) can have very different moral beliefs. There was a time when white supremacy was the belief of the majority and they considered it moral.
The moment “morals” enter into the process of deciding who gets money from the University we enter a dangerous area in which the a minority can be repressed because they hold beliefs different from the majority. The University has the responsibiliy to allow all students to form organizations (that meet previously established SGA guidelines) and give them the finances for the services they offer the campus.
PFLAG (Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbian And Gays) estimates that more than 7.2 million Americans under the age of 20 are homosexual.
Whether or not you believe it is moral, there are homosexuals, bisexuals and transgendered students on this campus and they have supporters. PRIDE (UNCG’s gay, lesbian and bisexual organization) meets SGA guidelines and offers services to this campus. They have every right to exist and be supported by SGA.
